The City Hall of Chisinau Municipality joins the European project “SUSTAIN-2 – A sustainability model for tourism (F&B)”, funded through the INTERREG NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, together with partners from Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey and Ukraine.
The overall objective of the project is to jointly contribute to the development of a more competitive and smarter Black Sea Basin region by supporting the blue economy and, in particular, tourism, through the promotion of ESG sustainability principles (environmental, social and governance) among tourism stakeholders, especially within the food and beverage sector. The project also aims to create the necessary conditions and facilitate the adoption and implementation of sustainable practices by all categories of operators, including small enterprises, by using artificial intelligence-based solutions and ensuring long-term sustainability effects.
The tourism sector is a transnational and interconnected field, exposed to complex changes and challenges that go beyond geographical borders. At the same time, it is among the fastest-growing sectors with high development potential. The project was officially launched on 15 December 2025 and will be implemented over a period of two years.
The total project budget amounts to EUR 1,090,064.60, of which EUR 981,058.11 (90%) is funded through the INTERREG Fund of the European Union, while EUR 109,006.49 (10%) represents the partners’ contributions.
The total amount allocated to Chisinau Municipality for the implementation of the activities under the project “SUSTAIN-2 – A sustainability model for tourism (F&B)” is EUR 154,872.22. Of this amount, EUR 139,384.99 will be reimbursed to the municipal budget through the project leader, Democritus University of Thrace – School of Engineering (Greece), from European Union funds, while EUR 15,487.23 represents the municipality’s own non-reimbursable contribution.
