The Municipality of Chișinău joins the European sustainable tourism project SUSDEST-NET.

02.12.2025

The Chișinău City Hall is participating in the European project “Sustainable Destinations Black Sea Network – SUSDEST-NET”, developed to address common challenges in the Black Sea Basin region, which includes Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Turkey.

The initiative aims to transform these tourist destinations into sustainable, competitive and attractive areas by promoting sustainable practices, protecting the environment, ensuring social equity and strengthening economic viability.

The project will help attract responsible tourists, stimulate local economies and preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the Black Sea region for future generations.

SUSDEST-NET is funded by the European Union through the INTERREG NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme. The project was officially launched on 4 November 2025 and will be implemented between 2025 and 2028 (activities end on 3 May 2028).

The project will develop a joint policy and strategy for sustainable tourism, providing a harmonised framework for guiding relevant practices. Its main objective is to promote ESG sustainability principles (environmental, social and governance) across five tourist destinations in the region, which will establish Destination Management Committees (DMC).

Special attention will be given to the active involvement of local communities, including suburban areas, ensuring that sustainability initiatives are inclusive and meet the needs of all stakeholders. All project results will be available online.

The total budget of the project is 1,415,719.10 Euro, structured as follows:

  • 1,274,147.15 Euro (90%) – contribution of the European Union

  • 141,571.95 Euro (10%) – partners’ contributions

Financial involvement of the Municipality of Chișinău:
Total allocation: 223,245.22 Euro, of which:

  • 200,920.69 Euro will be reimbursed to the municipal budget by the project leader – the Municipality of Kavala (Hellenic Republic)

  • 22,324.53 Euro represents the municipality’s own non-refundable contribution (10%)

Through this project, the Municipality of Chișinău strengthens its position on the European map of modern and sustainable cities, reaffirming its commitment to modernizing public services and developing the capital into a modern, attractive and European-oriented tourist destination.
