Chișinău City Hall, in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is implementing the Bîc River Rehabilitation and Flood Protection Project, based on a financing agreement worth a total of EUR 12 million, including a EUR 4 million grant.
The project is strategic for the capital city and forms part of the Green City Action Plan, aiming to introduce sustainable solutions to address the increasing impacts of climate change.
Key objectives include river cleaning, riverbank rehabilitation, revitalisation of water flow, modernisation of the urban drainage system, and the transformation of the Bîc River into a functional green-blue corridor for the city.
The project is expected to be implemented over approximately three years, in several stages, including technical studies, development of an integrated basin model, procurement of modern drainage cleaning equipment, rehabilitation of urban drainage infrastructure, and reprofiling of about 7.6 km of the river channel within the city.
