On April 22, 2026, the Head of the General Directorate of Economy, Trade and Tourism, Mr. Roman Vitiuc, participated as a speaker at the final conference of the European project “BE READY – Urban Heat Islands: Resilience, Preparedness and Mitigation Strategy”, funded by the Uniunea Europeană under the Interreg Regiunea Dunării Programme 2021–2027.
During the panel “Building a regional ecosystem: future needs and how to respond to them”, Mr. Vitiuc highlighted the impact of climate change on urban tourism, as well as the measures needed to reduce its negative effects on the seasonality of visits.
The “BE READY” project, launched in January 2024 and running until June 2026, aims to strengthen cities’ capacity to prevent, manage, and reduce the effects of the urban heat island phenomenon through modern, data-driven solutions and transnational cooperation.
The initiative brings together 19 partners from 12 countries, with 10 European cities involved in pilot actions, including Chișinău.
The “BE READY” project provides the municipality of Chișinău with modern tools and practical examples for developing a safer, greener, and more resident- and tourist-friendly city.
