Transforming Chișinău! Major investments in waste management system modernization

Chișinău Municipality continues to implement essential projects for a cleaner and more modern city. With the support of international partners, we are making significant investments to improve waste management infrastructure.

Achievements to Date:

Essential Equipment for Improving Public Services:

  • 3,000 European-standard waste containers acquired for efficient waste collection

  • 44 new specialized vehicles for modernizing the sanitation fleet:

    • 8 IVECO tractor units

    • 8 EFE semi-trailers

    • 6 MAN specialized vehicles

    • 30 RENAULT specialized vehicles

  • Developed a methodology for calculating tariffs for waste management services

Investments in Waste Collection and Processing Infrastructure:

In 2024, contracts were signed for strategic projects:

  • Construction of a modern waste transfer station with a sorting line

  • Rehabilitation of the waste landfill in Ciocana

We collaborate with top international companies to implement these projects:

  • GOL CEVRE TEKNOLOJILERI Ltd. (Turkey) – leader of the JV WATT-GOL consortium for landfill rehabilitation

  • LIV MUH MUS INS LTD. (Turkey) – responsible for technical supervision of the works

Investments by Year:

2022:

  • €298.4 thousand – maintenance of the Project Implementation Unit

2023:

  • €1,448.0 thousand – acquisition of waste containers

  • €1,424.7 thousand – acquisition of MAN and IVECO specialized vehicles

2024:

  • €500.0 thousand – acquisition of RENAULT specialized vehicles

06-07.2024:

  • €3,092.0 thousand – acquisition of additional RENAULT specialized vehicles

  • €1,424.7 thousand – acquisition of MAN and IVECO specialized vehicles

Total investments made so far: €7.21 million

Ongoing Works in 2025:

Rehabilitation of the Ciocana landfill and construction of the transfer station:

  • A new access road to the construction site has been built

  • The site has been prepared, and modular containers have been installed for site organization

  • Temporary connection to the electrical grid has been completed

  • Next steps: final design and connection to water and sewage networks

  • We continue investments in modernizing and optimizing the waste management system

  • The work on the transfer station and landfill rehabilitation in Ciocana is progressing as planned

  • International partnerships help us implement the best practices in the field
