Geographically, the country serves as a veritable bridge between western and eastern markets. It has excellent connectivity with all European states and many countries on the Asian side at a click of 3 hours by air.

The municipality of Chisinau has the following means of transport: railway transport, road transport, air transport and river transport.

The road infrastructure of the municipality of Chisinau is composed of 900 streets with a length of 672.2 km and a road surface of about 18 million m2.

In the municipality of Chisinau, the public passenger transport service is provided by two municipal companies: M.E. „Electric Transport Company” and M.E. „Urban Bus Park” and 9 minibus operators.

M.E. „Electric Transport Company”

M.E. „Electric Transport Company”, is one of the largest public transport companies in the municipality of Chisinau, which includes three trolleybus fleets, the electric network service, trolleybus repair and assembly workshops, the traffic service with the dispatch network and 10 other subdivisions.

ETC’s mission is to ensure the comfort and safety of passengers through high quality sustainable transport services. Permanent increase in energy efficiency, meeting transport demand, predictability and increasing accessibility and urban mobility, by complying with all safety conditions and reducing accidents, applying quality criteria, transparency, as well as reducing the negative impact on the environment through ecological transport, improving the global image of public transport, serving as a role model in the regeneration process of the Chisinau municipality.

 M.E. „Urban Bus Park”

Founded on September 1, 1955, the company had about 40 “ЗИС” and ПАЗ” type buses and a workforce of over 200 employees.

The fleet was considerably renewed in 2021, when two large batches of buses were procured: 100 new ISUZU models and 58 existing MAN, VOLVO and VDL models. Currently, the “Urban Bus Park” company has 205 transport units in operation and a workforce of over 800 employees.

Also on the territory of the Chisinau municipality are the Chisinau International Airport and the Moldova Railway, which provides the transport of passengers and goods.

Chisinau International Airport

Chisinau International Airport is the ideal departure point for both business and leisure travel, serving up to 3 million passengers per year from around the world and receiving more than 300 flights per week. Chisinau Airport is located at the intersection of the Asian and European trade routes, being the main air gateway of the Republic of Moldova. Currently, 19 airlines operate charter flights and regular flights to/from Chisinau International Airport to 40 world destinations.

Railway from Moldova

The operation of the railway began on August 28, 1871 – the day on which train traffic was opened on the Tiraspol – Chisinau sector. This railway line, which united Bessarabia with the railway networks of Ukraine and Russia, served as the basis for the formation of the transport system in our country.

At present, the enterprise fully provides the needs of the state in the transport of passengers and goods in local, interstate and international traffic.

In addition to the basic activity, related to the transport of goods and passengers, “Moldova Railway” carries out construction works and renovation of rolling stock, which were previously carried out in the CIS countries.

The main railway junctions are in Chisinau and have rail connections with Odessa and Ivano-Frankivsk in Ukraine, Iasi and Galati in Romania. From there, trains run to international destinations everywhere – Moscow and St. Petersburg (Russia), Minsk (Belarus), Kyiv, Chernovtsy, Nikolaev (Ukraine), Bucharest, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Istanbul (Turkey), Sofia (Bulgaria), Berlin (Germany), Prague (Czech Republic). The total length of the Moldovan railway lines is more than 1,230 kilometers.
